Tampa Street Takeover Bust Nets Four Arrests

Street takeover events plague many cities across North America and with the warmth of summer arriving, we’re anticipating a spike in activity. But deputies in the Tampa Bay area were able to bust up one takeover event, arresting four participants while sending a clear message to others.

Multiple shot and killed during Tennessee takeover event.

According to an official press release from Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the takeover event at an intersection just before 1 am on May 5. Bystander footage obtained by the sheriff’s office shows muscle cars doing smoky donuts while someone sets off colorful fireworks – typical fare for takeovers.

Deputies had to assess the chaos and made the decision to contain a 2022 Dodge Challenger on the scene. Why they nailed that muscle car wasn’t made clear, but inside were four suspects all between the ages of 20 and 22.

Now we know what you’re thinking: what kid in their early 20s can afford even a base ’22 Challenger? Pretty much no kid, so the more obvious conclusion is it was either stolen or was purchased by/belongs to a parent.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says the four kids had come from Lee County for the organized street takeover. Word of these illegal events is often spread through social media. Why the platforms allow the organizing of crimes like this is a mystery considering how we’ve seen them crack down on other activities with ruthless vigor.

As deputies searched the Mopar muscle car they found Roman candles and video recording equipment. It’s pretty obvious someone is chasing social media clout.

In addition, deputies seized a 2006 Chrysler 300 after it was abandoned at the scene and the occupants ran away. We wouldn’t be surprised to learn that car was stolen. If not, it should be easy to track down the driver.
