Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans pulled off an exhilarating final-lap move to claim victory in Round 11 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship at the Shanghai E-Prix. This dramatic win marks the Championship’s return to China after more than four years.

Starting from third on the grid, Evans quickly surged to the front by lap 7, overtaking polesitter Jean-Éric Vergne (DS PENSKE) and Nissan’s Oliver Rowland. He also skillfully passed both Porsches of Pascal Wehrlein and António Félix da Costa as they managed their energy levels.

The race saw intense jockeying for position among the top six drivers. By the halfway mark, Wehrlein led, closely followed by Evans, with minimal separation between them. On lap 19, Evans, with a slight energy advantage, overtook da Costa, and by lap 23, Championship leader Nick Cassidy climbed to fourth.

The decisive moment came on the final lap when Evans, after a failed attempt at the hairpin, executed a daring outside pass on Wehrlein to take the lead. Evans maintained this position to the finish line, while Cassidy finished third after a last-second challenge on Wehrlein.

Rounding out the top ten were da Costa, Dennis, Vergne, Nyck de Vries, Maximilian Günther, and Sébastien Buemi. A subsequent penalty for Günther promoted Stoffel Vandoorne into the points.

This win propels Cassidy to the top of the Drivers’ standings with 155 points, ahead of Wehrlein’s 142 and Rowland’s 130. Jaguar TCS Racing also extends its lead in the Teams’ Championship standings by 66 points.

Results are subject to an FIA post-race investigation.

Mitch Evans, No. 9, Jaguar TCS Racing: “Super happy, but it was not an easy race to manage. Starting towards the front can be good, it can be bad, but I think we managed it well. I had the energy advantage so I just wanted to bide my time and let the race come to me, and it did. Great points for our championship, it was a good one.”

Pascal Wehrlein, No. 94, TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team: “Yeah, it was a tough race. We went to the lead a bit too early and for a bit too long, allowing Evans and others to build an energy advantage. On the last lap, I had to coast quite early, which allowed Mitch to overtake me. A few contacts, but it was hard but fair. A well-deserved podium for the team.”

Nick Cassidy, No. 37, Jaguar TCS Racing: “It was a nice race today, awesome to get a one-three! I had the energy to win for sure, but it wasn’t my decision so it’s okay.”
